A modern democracy depends on a vibrant news media to keep the public informed. At no point is this more important than in times of crisis. In this course, we will examine the work of journalists as they responded to the most critical events of the past 100 years; from WWI to the global economic meltdown of late 2008. Both the dominant media forms during times of crisis, as well as those of media that grew in importance because of their ability to respond to an ongoing urgent story will be studied.
