This is a one-term introduction to Public Finance. We will begin by asking a fundamental question: When should the government intervene in the economy? Answering this question requires us to understand what is meant by market failures and what causes market failures. We will discuss externalities and provision of public goods. Additional topics that we will cover are Social Insurance, Social Security, Health Insurance and various welfare programs.

The waitlist is managed according to standard departmental practice.
