FA 2011 American Culture AMCULT 103 - First Year Seminar in American Studies Section 005 Cultural Studies: From Origins to the Internet
Course Note:	This course is designed to introduce students to a wide variety of topics and issues in American Studies in a seminar format from a Humanities perspective. It enables students to have contact with regular faculty in a small-class experience and to elicit their active participation in the topics under discussion.

This course explores the history of cultural studies. From its early work on the effects of mass culture to its newest enunciation in different forms of digital technologies, cultural studies has given us a vantage point to investigate how cultural production is shaped by state and capitalist power. This course will explore these topics through the lens of various media and examples of popular culture.
