This class will provide an overview of the sociology of knowledge, with a particular focus on scientific knowledge. The main questions that this class will address throughout the term are:
- what is the role of culture, power, and politics in producing scientific knowledge,
- how is scientific knowledge produced and accepted and
- what is the role of science in society?
Key to answering these questions will be the overturning of many taken-for granted assumptions about knowledge, science, and humanity.

This class requires no prior knowledge any scientific field, although an interest in the social and cultural role of science in society will help.
