These seminars, which are restricted to first-year students, are small group classes (approximately 15-25 students) taught by regular and emeritus faculty.

Enrollment restricted to first-year students, including those with sophomore standing.
This course counts toward the 60 credits of math/science required for a Bachelor of Science degree.
May not be repeated for credit.
Primary Instructor:

Life (at least as we know it) would be impossible without about 20 "trace elements." These are "inorganic" (as opposed to "organic," or carbon based) chemicals. We will explore what roles these elements play, and what happens if they aren't present.

We will also look at elements, not normally found in biology, that can be important both in causing disease (i.e., environmental toxins) and in curing disease (e.g., anti-cancer drugs).
