This course provides an understanding of production, dissemination, and reception of mediated news content. Topics include: the elements influencing production of news content, including individual, organizational, political, economic, and cultural factors; public journalism as an alternative to current journalism practices; perspectives on media effects as a process; and various views on the role of new media in promoting civic life.
