In this course, we will study narratives about the American experience, using these texts to explore meaning and generate ideas for essays. The goal of this class is to help prepare you for the writing you'll do in your college career and onward. We will examine the 'rules' of writing and focus on craft, as well as discuss how one can develop the most compelling central questions and arguments.

Although we will dissect and discuss various works of literature, the core of the class will consist of peer workshops, in which student work is commented upon with respect and intelligence.
