This course will introduce students to the range of social sciences and
will show how the insights gained from these sciences can help us
understand and address environmental problems. The first part of the
course will provide an overview of the social sciences. As part of
this overview, the perspectives of anthropology,
communication/education, economics, political science, sociology, and
psychology will be used to examine the causes of and solutions for
environmental problems. The second part of the course will focus on
two current environmental issues and will explore how the concepts and
tools from the social sciences are, or can be, used to address these
problems.
