This course is an introduction to the cultures and histories of South Asia, the region of the world that today is constituted by the modern nation-states of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. It will broaden and deepen your knowledge of some of the most important events, people, cultures, trends, and controversies in the history of South Asia. We will explore South Asia as a key region in world history and in our contemporary world, and explore connections and comparisons between its different parts and the wider world.
