Opera is a quintessentially Italian art form based on the fusion of words and music. The primary objective of this course is to improve comprehension and speaking by learning the words of famous Italian operas. Music and drama help fix a broad lexicon, grammatical structures and idiomatic expressions in memory. The operas, chosen for performances available to attend during the semester, will be studied in their entirety, as a complete work of art.

Course Requirements:

No data submitted

Intended Audience:

No particular familiarity with opera or music is expected.

Class Format:

Students will share responsibility for deciphering and analyzing the text on a daily basis, reinforcing the grammatical forms necessary to understand the dramatic events unfolding in the work. There will be lots of low-pressure singing together in class, and few lip-synched videos made by the students
