A survey of European music from the Middle Ages to the Baroque for undergraduate students. Our main goal is to approach a large portion of the European musical tradition up to ca. 1750 as a powerful and meaningful presence in the culture of its time. Students will acquire the listening skills and the historical background that are necessary for an in-depth enjoyment and understanding of the musical styles, forms, and contexts of performance of this period.
