What are you hoping to gain from your time at Michigan? To take advantage of your experience, ALA 171: Making the Most of Michigan is a 7-week course designed to help students present themselves to the world at large.

Students in the course:

  • Engage with resources across the university campus
  • Understand social identities and build important communication skills across differences
  • Create online portfolios that detail their goals, aspirations, and key experiences
  • Grow as leaders in our diverse campus community

    Offered in residence halls and facilitated by upper-level students, this course creates a comfortable environment for students to speak openly. This course is recommended for all first-year students, but especially those who want a head start in the professional world.

    Ultimately, making the most of Michigan is making Michigan yours!

    Course Requirements:

    Students will create an integrative knowledge eportfolio that will be useful as students apply for research, study abroad, internship, scholarship, employment and advanced study opportunities.

    Intended Audience:

    U-M first-year students living in University Housing.
