PSYCH 111 may not be included in a major in Psychology or a major in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience. Students in PSYCH 111 are required to spend five hours outside of class participating as subjects in research projects. F, W, Sp, Su.

Primary Instructor:

Psychology is the study of thought and behavior. It can help you understand yourself and others, and is relevant to health, education, business, and law. This course will survey the field. We will overview evolutionary, genetic, and neurological bases of behavior and thought, as well as what is known about sensation, perception, consciousness, learning, memory, language, thinking, intelligence, motivation, emotion, development, aging, social cognition, social behavior, personality, health behavior, mental disorders, and psychological treatments. At the end of the course students should know key findings about these topics and be able to evaluate purported psychological facts.

Course Requirements:

Evaluation is based on weekly web submitted short assignments and quizzes, and three in class multiple choice exams.

Students will attend lecture twice per week, as well as a discussion section once per week.
