Primary Instructor:

A lecture or seminar course intended for Statistics majors, Applied Statistics Master's students and others with suitable background in applied and theoretical statistics. The special topics course serves to expose students to emerging topics or innovative collections of topics in statistics, probability and/or data science. Contents and requirements vary by instructor.

Course Requirements:

Contents and requirements vary by instructor, but ordinarily the course will have weekly or bi-weekly problem sets, one or two midterm examinations, a final exam and/or a final project.

Intended Audience:

Statistics majors or minors who have completed Stats 426, with prior or concurrent Stats 500; juniors or seniors in Informatics and Computer Science majors who have completed two or more upper-division courses in statistics and/or probability; applied Statistics Master's degree students.

Class Format:

Three weekly hours of lecture or seminar, to be determined by instructor. Some offerings of the course will have a lab section, meeting for 1 hour per week, often for computing practicum.
