Note: This course will focus on the analysis of form and how we write about it. We will seek to move beyond taxonomic description and toward a consideration of how we can capture in prose what we hear in terms of the work's dynamic. We will be guided by texts including Erwin Stein's "Form and Performance." Repertoire under examination will likely center on Bach's inventions and Beethoven's piano sonatas.
