Enrollment restricted to first-year students, including those with sophomore standing.
This course counts toward the 60 credits of math/science required for a Bachelor of Science degree.
May not be repeated for credit.
Primary Instructor:

This seminar considers the impact of sip to smell in our everyday lives targeted at a broad audience from the non-major to introductory level sciences. Together we will explore, through conversation and discussion of peer-reviewed literature and presentations, the impact of what we drink and odors we encounter in our environment. Developed and led by a medical school professor who does biomedical research and enjoys teaching, we will look at practical aspects of the scientific method. We’ll investigate how smells are a crucial part of our existence, in sensing pleasure or evaluating our surroundings for awareness. We’ll also examine aromas characteristic of wine that result from photosynthesis and fermentation, and how chemical constituents of grapes influence our health. Come join us in an informal, informative, small-group learning experience, sharing and exchanging ideas.
