Primary Instructor:

In this section of Writing 100, we will work together to understand and practice several different kinds of academic writing. This course will also cover criteria for identifying credible sources for research papers and putting those sources to appropriate use.

We will explore reflective writing, persuasive writing, and research by engaging with a topic of your choosing on which there is some controversy.

This course emphasizes writing as a process; by working with peers through multiple drafts, we will cover strategies for editing and reorganizing writing that will be an important part of developing your writing style.

Course Requirements:

  • Regular attendance and participation
  • Working with peers to review and workshop drafts
  • Student-instructor conferences to workshop drafts
  • Personal essay on a topic of student’s choice
  • Annotated bibliography on a topic of student’s choice

Intended Audience:

Any undergraduate who wants to improve their ability to express ideas and arguments in writing; particularly undergraduates interested in writing about current events

Class Format:

This class meets for two one-hour sessions per week and will feature a mixture of short instructor lectures, group discussions, and writing workshop exercises. Individual meetings with the instructor are also part of the course.
