The essays you’ll write in this particular section of WRITING 100 will require a combination of conventional research and boots-on-the-ground reportage. Each of the essays we write will have a different center and a different purpose. During the course of the term you will undertake a journey, conduct a social experiment, and raise awareness on a specific problem in your community, in addition to shorter writing assignments. These essays will simultaneously help you develop your tool kit of academic inquiry and give you occasion to look deeper into the new communities you are part of as incoming students to the University of Michigan. By the end of the semester, my hope is that you will have new and exciting lenses through which to perceive your world and your place in it.
