Primary Instructor:

In UC 108 students will build on what they learned about the STEM disciplines in UC 107 and move toward researching the disciplines and topics that interest them. Students will utilize their UM library search skills and locate appropriate academic sources to research their areas of interest. They will also learn additional methodologies to utilize in their search. The class will share their interests early in the term and then interest groups of 3-4 students will be formed. The goal of the interest groups is to give students experience working on individual projects as well as group projects. Their individual work will be coordinated with their group and culminate in a final presentation composed of the individual and group components. There will be multiple short assignments with written work focusing on the editing process and meeting multiple deadlines in both their individual and group work.

Writing requirements: Each student will submit an Individual Research Plan (10 points) Group Research Plan (20 points; 15 individual points, 5 group points) Progress report: 15 points Other points: PowerPoint Presentation: 25 individual points, 10 group points Class discussion and participation: 20 points Total points: 100
