Primary Instructor:

This course is the continuation for students who have completed ASIANLAN 475 or have equivalent background of advanced Vietnamese. The course is aimed at enhancing students' competency in reading and listening comprehension, as well as knowledge of the language and various aspects of Vietnamese culture. These skills will be emphasized through reading comprehension textbooks; engaging authentic materials such as newspapers and videos about society and culture in Vietnam. Students are expected to present and share their knowledge about their subject of interest in class discussions.

By the end of the semester, students will be able to: understand complex ideas and concepts; make presentation in Vietnamese through discourse that shows knowledge of the subject and expresses supporting ideas; comprehend reading materials from various authentic sources (newspapers, literature, poems) and write responses to the material; comprehend movies, video clips about contemporary Vietnam; be able to discuss or express points of view in oral and written forms; write essays and research papers in Vietnamese.

Course Requirements:

Evaluation will be based on weekly responses (summary/essay) and vocabulary profiles, weekly news reports, a mid-term exam, presentations, discussion, book and movie reviews, a final paper (with a presentation and written submission).
