Section: 001
Term: WN 2018
Subject: Biology (BIOLOGY)
Department: LSA Biology
Requirements & Distribution:
With permission of instructor.
Enforced Prerequisites:
BIOLOGY 171 and BIOLOGY 172 (OR 174) OR BIOLOGY 195; and CHEM 130 or CHEM 210 (or placement in CHEM 210 by orientation exam).
This course counts toward the 60 credits of math/science required for a Bachelor of Science degree.
May not be repeated for credit.
Primary Instructor:

Cells are the fundamental units of life. This course will expand students' knowledge of essential principles that guide our current understanding of cellular structure, function, and behavior. We will emphasize central concepts in Cell Biology including: cellular components and architecture, membrane structure, posttranslational protein transport, membrane trafficking, cell signaling, cytoskeleton, cell cycle, cell-matrix and cell-cell adhesion, and cancer.

Course Requirements:

Students will be assessed based on: iClicker participation in lectures, performance on four exams, and performance in the discussion section. The exams will focus on the material covered in lectures and may also include material covered in Discussion Sections. The exams are non-cumulative. Additionally, material covered in discussion sections may be on the exams.

Intended Audience:

Sophomore and Junior CMB or other biological science majors.

Class Format:
