This introduction to genetics includes the following sections:

  • gene transmission in eukaryotes and prokaryotes,
  • linkage and recombination,
  • gene expression,
  • mutation and recombination,
  • DNA and chromosomes,
  • molecular genetic analysis,
  • genomics,
  • gene regulation,
  • developmental genetics, and
  • population genetics.

Course Requirements:

Grading is based primarily on four exams covering lectures and reading assignments; exams include problems that test applications of basic concepts and genetic techniques. Discussion sections and in-class problem solving are designed to reinforce concepts in genetics.

Intended Audience:

All students of biology and pre-health sciences.

Class Format:

There are three hours of lecture each week and one 60-minute discussion session, directed by Graduate Student Instructors. The discussion sections expand on lecture material through problem assignments and discussion.
