CHEM 130 or equivalent. CHEM 246 (LEC/LAB) must be taken concurrently with CHEM 245 and CHEM 247.

Primary Instructor:

This laboratory course will teach the measurement techniques often used in clinical chemistry laboratories to determine the levels of specific chemical species in blood and urine samples.

Students will gain hands on experience using electrochemical, optical/spectroscopic and separation techniques to quantify the concentrations of glucose, salicylate, potassium, urea, IgG, and other species in simulated blood and urine samples.

Intended Audience:

Students in bio-related concentrations who are thinking of being experimentalists; also for pre-health students looking for a lab/lecture combination to fill out their pre-professional chemistry requirements with directly relevant subject matter.
