PHYSICS 141 is a two-hour weekly laboratory designed to accompany PHYSICS 140. Students make observations, do simulations, analyze their data and compare their results to predictions based on theory. The course material is focused on understanding the principles of classical mechanics.
PHYSICS 140+141 do not have Wolverine Access waitlists. Students who are unable to find a seat in 140+141 are invited to send an email to physics.sso@umich.edu with one lab and one lecture section number that works with their schedule. These students will be added to a department-maintained waitlist. Only students who do not already have a seat in the course will be able to join this "paper" waiting list.
Course Requirements:
Students are graded on in-class performance and laboratory reports submitted at the end of each lab period. Students are expected to complete 11 experiments in this course during the Fall term and 12 experiments during the Winter term.
Intended Audience:
This laboratory is intended for students interested in the physics and engineering who are taking the PHYSICS 140/240 course sequence. Note that Physics 140 and Physics 141 need to be taken concurrently and will result in one letter grade for both courses.
Class Format:
One two-hour period of laboratory work each week. There are eight stations in the classroom, and students work in groups of three.
