Primary Instructor:

Portuguese 102 is a task and content-based continuation of Portuguese 101. It's designed to expand students' knowledge of the language, the culture of the Portuguese speaking countries, and increase proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Portuguese, incorporating grammar in a meaningful and practical use of language through a variety of communicative activities.

Students completing the course will have developed the ability to communicate comfortably in Portuguese in everyday practical situations, being able to hold spontaneous conversations on everyday topics, talk about studies, food, leisure, work, and health, understand the gist of one-way communications, read for practical information, and write correspondence and compositions on familiar topics.

Course Requirements:

Grading is based on attendance, class participation, oral exams, quizzes, writing assignments, mid-term, homework in Canvas and in MPL, a skit, and a final examination.

Class Format:

Students are expected to acquire the ability to understand conversational Portuguese, to communicate and convey ideas satisfactorily in everyday practical situations with native speakers, read newspapers, write short essays, and be acquainted with some cultural elements of the Portuguese speaking world.
