Requirements & Distribution:
SS
Cost:
>100
Enforced Prerequisites:
One of the following: PSYCH 111, 112, 114, or 115.
Repeatability:
May not be repeated for credit.
Primary Instructor:

This course provides an overview of the milestones of human development from conception to death. We examine the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth of children, adolescents, and adults, and the various factors (e.g., genes, families, peers, schools, and the media) that influence development. The goal is to provide a survey of the major issues, central theories, and dominant research methods used to study human development.

Course Requirements:

In this course, we use a multi-dimensional approach to learning in which various methods are used to convey information (e.g., lectures, text, films) and test knowledge (e.g., exams, papers). Learning is viewed as a process through which the student is an active participant—not just a passive recipient. Students are encouraged to integrate their knowledge of psychology with their own observations of human development, and to consider the practical implications of current research in the field of human development for child-rearing and social policy.

Class Format:

The course includes lectures and discussion sections.
