Welcome to Writing 630, a course designed for graduate students who have made significant progress in their degree programs and are thinking ahead to larger, ongoing writing projects: a prospectus, conference paper, article, or groundwork for a dissertation. We will spend the first seven weeks in a traditional discussion forum, reviewing the basics of clear academic writing and of the demands of writing in graduate school. Topics will include incorporating sources, drafting introductions and literature reviews, refining your writing style, and honing in on the demands of your particular academic fields. During the following four weeks you will share portions of your work for peer review and discussion. For this portion of the course, you will focus on material you are already working on. The remainder of the course will be individual conferences with me to discuss the results of the peer reviews and their application to your work.

Course Requirements:

This course is credit/no credit. In order to receive credit for this course, you must show quantifiable progress in your writing, as well as implement the writing strategies discussed during peer reviews and individual conferences.

Intended Audience:

Graduate Students who have made significant progress in their degree programs and are working on their prospectus, a conference paper, and article, or laying the groundwork for their dissertation.
