Primary Instructor:

Beginning Chinese is taught in this class with a faster pace. It begins with a brief review of Pinyin and then moves into simple daily conversations on such topics as greetings, introducing oneself and family, hobbies, shopping, college life, and transportation. Students will gain some control of the Chinese sound system (especially the four tones), basic sentence patterns, basic audio comprehension skills, simple daily conversations, and character writing. About 350 characters are introduced. Students successfully completing this course will continue on into ASIANLAN 102.

Course Requirements:

Quizzes, homework assignments, unit tests, oral presentations, class participation and attendance, and a final exam.

Intended Audience:

ASIANLAN 100 is an accelerated first semester Chinese course. It is a 3-credit course equivalent to ASIANLAN 101 meant for students with some Chinese language background but not enough to be placed into ASIANLAN 102. This course is not intended for heritage speakers.
