  • the fundamentals of physical oceanography;
  • the physical properties of the ocean and water masses;
  • circulation of the atmosphere;
  • wind-driven and buoyancy-driven ocean circulation;
  • tides;
  • surface and internal waves;
  • eddies; and
  • mixing.
