Primary Instructor:

This graduate-level class focuses on developing skills and tools you can use to communicate your science beyond academia. We’ll include discussions of the landscape of science communication along with practical exercises designed to improve your skills and address the challenges of “going public.” We’ll work on a range of oral and written modes, and depending on student interest can address other approaches. Guest lectures and trainers may be incorporated into our schedule, depending on availability and interest.

Course Requirements:

Come ready to participate, with a communications goal for your research in mind.

Intended Audience:

This course is intended for graduate students across all disciplines of earth and environmental scholarship, who are specifically interested in improving public communication skills. The class may be most useful for students who have a research focus identified that can serve as a basis for the communications exercises, but this focus can come from work done at any point in your career.

Class Format:

One hour per week seminar/workshop.
