The main purpose of this class is to improve your ability to think analytically, write with purpose, and communicate your message to your audience – skills you will need throughout your academic career and beyond. In this class, we’ll work on developing these skills by reading and thinking about memoirs. How do these narratives shape identity? Is there a broader social purpose to writing (the writing we read, the writing we do)? By exploring how these texts develop a voice, take a position, and make a claim, we’ll work on developing our awareness of the choices we make in our own expository writing.
