As movements like #MeToo and #IStand, the fight for equal pay, and the rise of affinity groups have all taken place over the last decade, it has become clear that diversity in the workplace is more than just a buzzword. Regardless of industry, all organizations must embrace and understand diversity. But what does it mean for an organization to be diverse? How can an organization successfully embrace diversity, and incorporate it as part of their corporate strategy?

This course explores the complex dynamics of diversity in organizations by drawing on theories from social science. We will critically examine how race, ethnicity, gender and other axes of difference affect personal interactions, group dynamics, and organizational culture in multiple organizational contexts, including the workplace and education. Through readings and discussions students will also develop their awareness of and sensitivity to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Intended Audience:

Organizational Studies Students as well as juniors/seniors who are interested in Organizational Theory

Class Format:

1.5-hour seminar twice weekly
