This 7-week mini-course helps incoming Honors students make the most of the opportunities available at U-M and within the Honors Program. Each unit is designed to promote essential skills: finding resources on campus, developing time management skills, exploring why campus diversity matters, or defining the meanings of leadership. These units were designed with feedback and input from current Honors students.
Students will have opportunities to:
Gain advanced awareness of key university and program resources.
Create deeper connections with their cohort, staff, and student mentors within the Honors learning community.
Hear from University specialists from a variety of campus offices.
Develop problem-solving, conflict resolution, time management, networking, and teamwork, often known as “soft skills” in the work environment.
Participate in careful self-assessment and planning, leading to meaningful decision-making about extra-curriculars, internships, and undergraduate career goals.
Define academic and civic passions and develop authentic personal narratives relevant to interviews, graduate/professional school applications, and self-knowledge.
