This course will bring various classical rhetorical lenses to bear on the photographic image in general and the multimodal hypertext of Instagram in particular. Students will put newly acquired perspectives and skills to use in the creation of a new purpose-driven Instagram account, which will be evaluated at the end of the semester.
Course Requirements:
Students will use Canvas, Zoom, Instagram, and Photoshop. It is therefore recommended that students take advantage of the University's license of Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Photoshop and Lightroom) on their personal computers, or make use of Adobe-enabled campus computers.
There will be no exams or tests; students will instead be assessed on their final projects, which they will work on throughout the semester.
Intended Audience:
All students interested in photography, narrative, social media, and the visual arts.
Class Format:
The majority of this class will be synchronous, with one or two asynchronous meetings at the end of the semester where students will be commenting on and providing feedback for final projects-in-process.
