This course is designed for students who have completed second year Vietnamese or have an equivalent background in intermediate Vietnamese. The course is aimed at enhancing students' competency in reading and listening comprehension, as well as knowledge of the language and various aspects of Vietnamese culture. These skills will be emphasized through reading comprehension textbooks; engaging authentic materials such as newspapers and videos about society and culture in Vietnam. Students are expected to participate in presentations and discussions in class.
By the end of the semester, students will be able to: understand and communicate well in Vietnamese; be at ease using colloquial Vietnamese, including proverbs and idioms; present and discuss topics of interest through coherent logic in Vietnamese; read articles from newspapers, magazines, and folk tales, or any reading materials related to students’ own interests in Vietnamese; write essays and research papers in Vietnamese.
Course Requirements:
The evaluation will be based on weekly responses (summary/essay) and vocabulary profiles, weekly news report, a mid-term exam, presentations, discussion, book and movie reviews, and a final paper (including a presentation and written submission).
Intended Audience:
This course is intended for students who have finished ASIANLAN 276 or have equivalent background of Vietnamese.
