Constitutes with CHEM 571 a full course for students specializing in physical chemistry. The foundation of equilibrium statistical mechanics and applications to problems of chemical interest. Included are discussions of imperfect gases and liquids, mixtures, solids, quantum statistics, surface chemistry and polymers.
Class Format:
The lectures for this course will be presented synchronously and students' participation is required. Students' questions during these classes will be strongly encouraged and essential for achieving best understanding of the presented material. These lectures will be recorded and made available asynchronously for students who are unable to attend.
Testing for this course will be asynchronous and given as two take home exams and one final project. The exams will have numerical problems and questions requiring explanations.
This course will use Canvas for all asynchronous online components. Synchronous lectures with the instructor will be conducted through Zoom and recorded. Students should have access to a camera and microphone.
