Description

“In this section of English 223, we will read fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, articles, back of cereal boxes, Wu-Tang lyrics, and much more; though the emphasis will be on poetry and fiction.

In an introductory class it’s imperative that we engage with the work through extensive analysis, open argumentation, and with the hope of implementation into our own writing practice. This course is a workshop and weekly writing will be a requirement of the course.

Pedagogically speaking, I believe in the classroom as a community where we should feel free to speak with each other with respect and consideration, empathy and honesty, hope and joy, and also sometimes we just have to argue about whether a line break is good, if a short story really needs all those commas, or if RZA from Wu-Tang is the best out of the group.

Overall, as a student you should feel comfortable writing about anything and trying anything because experimenting with writing styles and genres is the crux of creative writing. I hope to see you in class! “
