Using the framework of the reproductive justice movement, this course will explore access and barriers to U.S.-based reproductive health care, including contraception, comprehensive sex education, STI prevention and care, prenatal and postnatal care, childbirth options, abortion, and parenting/family support. We will examine the history of reproductive health policy through and including current public discussion surrounding reproductive rights and reproductive justice. We will explore how race, gender, and social status shape and affect access to and experiences of reproductive health care through an understanding of social structure and intersecting structural oppressions.
