Description

This course is a continuation of ASIANLAN 122. It will focus on improving the students’ communicative skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The class activities include, but are not limited to: listening and speaking practice through dialogues in the textbook, reading texts, writing, and presentations as well as discussion of grammatical items encountered in the materials and activities, such as nominalization of verbs using –nya, ‘yang’ relative clause, affix me(n)-i, more complex prepositions, adverbs, and conjunctions.

At the end of the course, students will be able to engage in conversations with intermediate sentence structure and vocabulary concerning topics like: welcoming a new neighbor; shopping for a religious holiday; and living in a village. Students will also be able to communicate their ideas and opinions on selected issues with controlled grammar and intermediate level vocabularies and expressions; recognize formal as well as informal registers in Indonesian and identify their usage in the appropriate settings; write short essays expressing their ideas and opinions on selected topics, and read articles and various intermediate types of texts.

Course Requirements:

Evaluation will be based on attendance and participation in class, a weekly vocabulary quiz, homework, weekly journals, tests, and projects.

Intended Audience:

This class is intended for students who have passed ASIANLAN 122 with grade C- or higher or those who have other equivalent Indonesian language training as proven by the department’s placement test score.
