Description

The course is aimed at improving students' speaking, listening, reading and writing competence. These skills will be emphasized through dialogues, reading passages, and authentic materials as well as listening comprehension and communicative exercises, video clips about various aspects of life in Vietnam. Students will also learn and develop cultural awareness through information and materials on Vietnamese culture.

By the end of the semester, students will be able to: understand and communicate in Vietnamese to handle their needs adequately if they travel or live in Vietnam; build up vocabulary about a variety of topics of common interest and cultural issues based on the textbooks; present and discuss simple topics of interest with other students in the class; read articles from newspapers and magazines; read folk tales; write essays and simple thematic papers in Vietnamese.

Course Requirements:

Evaluation will be based on quizzes and tests, daily preparation, participation, attendance, assignments, presentations, blog, a midterm exam, and a final project.

Intended Audience:

This course is intended for students who have finished ASIANLAN 176 or have equivalent background in Vietnamese.
