BIOLOGY 172 is a one-term course in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology that, together with BIOLOGY 171 and 173, collectively forms the introductory biology course sequence.
The aims of BIOLOGY 172 are:
- to provide factual and conceptual knowledge of how cells, organs, and organisms work; and
- to develop scientific hypothesis-testing and critical-thinking skills.
Course Requirements:
Grading is based on exam performance, weekly on-line quizzes, participation in problem solving in lecture, and participation in discussion exercises.
Intended Audience:
This course is intended for majors in biology, other science programs, or pre-professional studies. Other suitably prepared students wishing detailed coverage of biology are also welcome.
Class Format:
Two 90-minute in-person class periods with lecture and problem-solving portions. In addition, one 90-minute Discussion with active learning small group activities. Students will also be expected to prepare for lecture by reading assigned pages from the textbook and/or watching prerecorded introductory videos.
