Advisory Prerequisites:
Three years of high school math or MATH 105; one year of high school chemistry recommended. Placement by testing, or permission of Chemistry department.
Other Course Info:
Intended for students without AP credit in Chemistry. Neither CHEM 130, nor AP credits earned for CHEM 130, count toward the minors in Chemistry. F, W, Su.
BS:
This course counts toward the 60 credits of math/science required for a Bachelor of Science degree.
Repeatability:
May not be repeated for credit.

Description

CHEM 130 will require an online homework system and textbook. We strongly recommend waiting until the Chem 130 Canvas site is published before purchasing the homework and textbook.  The homework and electronic textbook are bundled together for a discounted price of $65 when purchased directly from the publisher via the Chem 130 Canvas site. An optional loose-leaf print version of the textbook is also available for an additional $30. The textbook is "Chemistry: Structure and Properties", 2nd Edition, by Nivaldo J. Tro. (ISBN: 9780134553313). Students will register for the online homework through the course Canvas site.

Students need a reliable high-speed internet connection to participate in this course. Course information and assignments, including announcements, lecture outlines, homework, quizzes, videos, and Zoom-based office hours will be organized and delivered on Canvas.

Lectures:
Lectures will occur in person, scheduled on Wolverine Access.  

Discussions:
Small group discussions will be held in person, as scheduled on Wolverine Access. Discussion meetings will include time to complete the weekly graded quiz assignment.

Quizzes and homework:
Quizzes and homework will be completed online via Canvas.

Exams:
Exams will take place in person. Mid-semester exams will be held on Tuesday EVENINGS (Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 15) at 8:00 PM. Limited same-day alternate exams will be available for demonstrated conflicts.
The final exam is Monday, December 12 at 8:00 AM in the MORNING.

Office hours:
The instructional team will hold a combination of weekly office hours, some in person and some virtual, to answer student questions outside of class.
