Description

This course introduces the theory and practice of quantitative morphology. We cover the methods for collecting data, the mathematical theory of shape, and methods for data analysis, with applications to ecological and evolutionary morphology. Discussions focus on recent literature in these fields. Students may choose to collect and analyze their own data or to participate in a group project. Grading is based on participation in discussions and a term paper presenting the results of their project. Readings are from a textbook and the primary literature; all necessary software is provided.
