Writing matters: it connects with others, helps us understand others’ ideas and our own, and enables us to learn, unlearn and relearn the world and its many monstrosities, entanglements and possibilities. In this section, you will develop effective writing strategies while considering the theme of monsters and monstrosities. We will explore a range of monstrous figures: the fantastical monster, female body as monster, racial/ized monsters, technological monsters, industrial monsters, etc. Most of the writing in the class will be expository but there will be opportunities for creative writing and multimodal projects. You may choose to write on class readings or themes that we discuss together in class, or you may bring your own interests into your writing. This class is for you to experiment with your language, ideas, interests in a space of collaboration and camaraderie. Make it your own!
