This course allows Statistics majors to earn one credit for statistical work they perform as off-campus interns. Students must obtain advance approval from the Statistics Department for internship plans. Upon completion of the internship, the internship's off-site supervisor needs to provide documentation of satisfactory performance. Students also are required to submit a final report describing their internship duties and accomplishments and relating them to studies in Statistics.

Course Requirements:

Students must submit a brief application describing the internship and explaining its relationship to the field. The off-site internship must entail the equivalent of 4 weeks of full-time work (160 or more hours). Upon completion, students would submit a supervisor's letter verifying what they had done and a brief report of their own.

Intended Audience:

Statistics majors wishing to gain workplace experience in industry, nonprofits, or in government. For many, an unpaid internship is a first step towards paying work. International students may need the academic credit to justify their stays to immigration authorities.

Class Format:

The structure of the internship experience would be decided by the student's supervisor at the sponsoring organization.
