In this course, students will analyze and compare attitudes towards sports in France and in the US to reach a better understanding of social and cultural differences. Students will explore, for example, the importance of sports in daily life and at school, the politics of sports and societal values, inequities and discrimination, and the relationship to competition.
Students will read texts from the Internet and literary excerpts, analyze data, watch videos and movie clips (news pieces, documentaries, French sports channels), observe cultural behaviors related to sports on social media and explore sports events in France. They will also watch movies and interact with French native speakers abroad.
In this course, we will cover the same language structures as students of other FRENCH 232 sections, and use the same textbook, Séquences, for grammar explanations and reference.
For information about the sequence of French language courses, please see the RLL Course Progress Chart.
