Courses in Art and Design

The Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design offers four innovative, media-rich and intellectually-challenging degrees: Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Arts (BA), BFA in Interarts Performance and the Joint Degree with LSA. Each degree program integrates traditional techniques with contemporary technologies and provides opportunities for exhibition, community engagement and international experience. The minor in art and design is open to students in all undergraduate programs, including LSA.

Stamps non-major courses (ARTDES 170-189) are open to all undergraduates who are not pursuing a Stamps major or minor. They do NOT satisfy any requirements for a Stamps major or minor. If a non-major course is full, students should add themselves to the course's waitlist in Wolverine Access. Overrides are issued from the waitlist only.

Spaces in Stamps major courses (ARTDES 100-151 and 200-389) are made available to non-majors after all Stamps majors have registered for an upcoming term. Beginning on the first day of backpacking, non-majors may request overrides for the Stamps major courses by going to http://stamps.umich.edu/courses and clicking the Overrides Information link at the top of the page. During the week before a term begins (August for Fall, January for Winter), non-majors are either issued overrides or are notified that spaces are unavailable. Please note that, for the fall and winter terms, demand for available spaces in these courses often exceeds supply. Students should prepare alternative class schedules in case they are not offered a space. For the spring term, all courses offered by the Stamps school are open to both majors and non-majors.

Course schedules and descriptions are also available on the Stamps School of Art & Design website.
