Research and Assessment

CGIS is dedicated to conducting research and assessment of its programs to improve its practices and programming as well as to contribute to the literature on the impact of off-campus intercultural programs on students and faculty.

We collect and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data from participants and non-participants. For example, we survey students both before and after their intercultural experiences; conduct post-travel interviews with students, faculty, and alums; analyze student reflection essays, administer the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) survey to participating faculty, GIEU teaching fellows, and some students; and conduct focus groups with students who have and have not participated in off-campus intercultural programs to investigate their motivations for participating.
