Spring 2012 Programs

French 230 in Grenoble, France
Spanish 230 in San José, Costa Rica
Spanish 230 in Granada, Spain
Italian 230 in Ferrara, Italy

Spring/Summer Languag`e Study programs allow students to complete their third and fourth term language requirement in one intensive half term in the field.  Students deepen their comfort and fluency in a non-English language through direct immersion as they live with host families and/or participate in internship/volunteer placements.  These special language programs are offered during the spring/summer terms enabling students to complete their language requirement during their first year, if desired.  Students register for these courses through the departments offering the language.

French 230 Overview: Grenoble has the distinction of being the capital of the French Alps, (although it is the flattest city in France). The city is located near Switzerland, Italy, the French Mediterranean, and within a 3 1/2 hour TGV train ride to Paris. Students take French 230 taught by a U-M French instructor and receive 8 credits to complete the language requirement.

For more information (including budget sheets and application procedures), please visit the French 230 program page on M-Compass.

Italian 230 is taught by a U-M language instructor. Course work is integrated with opportunities to visit local attractions and immerse yourself in Italian culture.
