How to Choose a Program

Guide to Choosing a Program

CGIS offers a wide variety of programs in over 50 different countries, both English-speaking and non-English-speaking, on every inhabited continent.

Here's the short version:

CGIS Programs (travel is 6 weeks or longer):

  • Are you looking for a traditional study abroad experience, where you take classes at a foreign university for a summer, semester, or a year?
  • Or, are you studying French, Spanish, Italian, or Mandarin and hoping to finish your language requirement abroad? Check out CGIS Programs!

CGIS Short-Term Programs (travel is 3 to 4 weeks):

  • Interested in developing relationships with and learning from host communities, expanding your worldview through intensive intercultural curricula? Check out Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates (GIEU), our 3-4 week service learning experience—it's not your everyday study abroad program!
  • Short on time and enthusiastic about learning outside the classroom? Global Course Connections (GCC) are study abroad experiences that usually take place over spring term, and are connected to specific U-M classes.

Of course, the best way to figure out what program fits your needs is attending a RSGG session.

Make sure to check our calendar page for upcoming info sessions and other opportunities!
